It’s part of the journey

The monarch butterfly is the only insect that migrates 2,500 miles to reach warmer weather and places that will nurture their survival. That’s why many people and organizations use the monarch butterfly to symbolize migration and immigrants. The butterfly is a reminder of who I am and why I wanted to be a journalist: immigrants deserve fair treatment and accurate storytelling. It’s also part of my reality: I’m undocumented, queer, brown. It’s part of the journey.
